Parent Sessions at Fort Health

about parent sessions

At Fort Health, we believe that when a child’s therapy includes parents and caregivers, the whole family gets better, quicker. That’s why we are excited to offer parents and caregiver sessions with your child’s therapist, separately and in parallel to the care your child receives.

Research has consistently shown that parental involvement in mental health treatment is associated with improved outcomes for children. Here are just a few of the many benefits that your involvement can bring:

  1. Increased engagement

Your involvement will help create a positive and supportive environment for your child. When you actively participate in therapy sessions, it sends a message to your child that you are invested in their well-being and are willing to support them. This can help your child feel more comfortable and open to sharing their thoughts and feelings with the therapist.

  2. Better Communication

By being involved in your child's treatment, you can establish a rapport with your child's therapist. You can share your child's history, symptoms, and progress, which can help the provider to develop a treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs.

  3. Shared Learnings

Your involvement will help you better understand your child's challenges and provide you with the tools to support them outside of therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a collaborative process, and when parents are involved, they can learn the same strategies and techniques that their child is using in therapy. This means that you can reinforce these skills at home.

  4. Improved Treatment Outcomes

Research has consistently shown that parental involvement in therapy is linked to better treatment outcomes. The addition of consistent parent involvement and participation in your child's therapy, your child is more likely to get better.

Scheduling

Parent Sessions are scheduled for 30-minute video sessions. We prioritize our after school and evening hours for child and teen appointments.  Your child’s therapist can work with you to schedule morning or day time meetings.

Cost and Insurance

Similar to individual therapy at Fort Health, parent therapy can be reimbursed by insurance when appropriately delivered by a licensed clinician. If we are in-network with your insurance provider, and you have a co-pay, we will collect that upfront prior to the start of the session. Our front desk team can assist you with assessing if you’re in-network for our services.
